I don't think you understand what any of this means.

No, I clearly understand contracts in the NFL, apparently you dont. 1st/2nd round picks have a good bit of GUARANTEED money built into their contract, which as you said, you get regardless of any outcome. Hence, guaranteed money. Later round picks do not get this luxury as you said they get...

Late round picks will get some signing bonus

And it's usually crap. I mean sure, you could live well off half a mil for a while, but that's not exactly...

just not as much

It's way, way, way, way less. Life altering money in 1st/2nd round GUARANTEED vs. a singing bonuses which if you get maybe 1 season in and cut you wont exactly be sitting on a gold mine for a long time.

I'd still like you to explain why you think he would play well if he stayed at LSU and won't if he's drafted in the say the 5th round? Cause it stands to reason if he played well at LSU that he would also play well in camp and as a rookie.

He could play awesome in camp and hell, be a starter if he's that good. Guess what? His initial contract will still be shite compared to a 1st or 2nd rounder which could even sit behind him with millions guaranteed to them while he signed a contract with $400k as a bonus.

The point here is the initial "Safe" money. If he doesn't work out, he's not left with bundles of money ad a late round pick. If he doesn't work out as a high round pick, he still has a pretty nice chunk of change. He only has that second opportunity if he came back for another year in college though.
