2:01:45 KV in the slot; makes the tackle on the RB for a short gain, but doesn't shed Austin; could've been a loss had he shed Tavon faster

2:03:00 in slot; makes the RB tackle

2:03:35 blankets Tavon in slot; Geno throws TD to opposite side

2:12:00 blankets Tavon; Geno looking Tavon's way; Geno arm hit; fumble; Texas ball

Three plays in a row where Tavon doesn't even run a route; just spreads KV out and WVU runs up the middle or to the other side. Lots of decoy plays for Tavon in this game

2:1920 blankets Tavon; Geon throws to opposite side of field for completion

2:23:06 yet another run to the opposite side of the field away from Tavon/KV; TD WVU

Texas TD with 15 seconds remaining WVU 48-45.
KV on onsides kick; WVU recovers; ball game.

Love this guy. More than held his own against Tavon. Blanketed him for most of the game, though Tavon was used a lot as a decoy.
Made some really nice plays in run support, but had issues shedding Tavon's pesky blocks at other times. Also when he was in zone, big plays were made a couple of times between him & safety.
Played 80% NB in the slot. Would slide in the box like an OLB about 20% of the game. Played press man & off-coverage. Very versatile.
Will easily be the best cover man on the Saints roster, and that includes CB's. Stayed with Tavon step-for-step on deep routes/slants and took him out of a lot of plays. There was only one play in man2man where I saw Tavon separate from KV.

To me, it sounds like Vaccaro handled Austin pretty well when they were matched up. Would that be a accurate description in your opinion. Just wondering because somof the Vaccaro haters in the thread did not give that impression. If he can handle Austin pretty well, he will by far be our best cover safety. Good pick IMHO.
ETA: I am now seeing your recap. Sounds excellent.

This is my problem with this. It was one game. I want to know how he did in the blowouts against Kansas State and Oklahoma. I'm not expecting you to break down film but one game doesn't define a body of work.

Sounds like you got some work to do, unless based on your lack of knowledge, you hate the pick.

All I know is that as far as cover skills in man-to-man, Vaccaro shut down one of the most explosive players in CFB (& probably the NFL soon) outside of one man-to-man 8 yard gain.
I know its just one game, but it's a pretty good measure.

He played in the Nickel like that a great deal last year and held his own.
Interesting how they used him, moving him around like that. Rob Ryan likes to do the same things with his safeties.

Hell of a game from the senior leader of the secondary. In his final regular season game of his career, Kenny Vaccaro was everything for the Texas defense, leading the team with 12 tackles, all solo. The next best tacklers for the defense were Steve Edmond and Peter Jinkens (Jinkens had a hell of a game as well, battling through a back injury and showing real promise for the future) at 5 a piece. Vaccaro drew a couple of difficult assignments in coverage over the course of the game and was a constant presence in run support. Several of his shots on Collin Klein would have broken lesser men (Bo Wallace agrees), but Klein's robotic build and Purple Merlin wizardry allowed him to pop up after every shot. Vaccaro has been my favorite Horn in his time here, and I really appreciate his effort.
