Didn't see a thread for this. It's pretty good so far
Can someone tell me what the deal was between Montana and Bill Walsh? I feel like I'm missing something

You mean besides coach and his starting QB? Walsh made Montana the quarterback he would eventually become. GOAT

I watched the NFL Networks "A Football Life" on Eddie DeBartolo(sp?) and it seemed like there was underlying tension between the 3 of them

Walsh flirted with the idea of trading Montana and picks for Elway. Supposedly, Walsh was pissed at Montana's performance in '82 season.

All I've gotten from this so far is that elway was a huge bitch.

Will it be repeated?
As I've said before, I watched that draft and sat dumbfounded as team after team passed on Marino. I specifically remember being shocked when the Chiefs picked Todd Blackledge at number 7.
What I didn't know then, there being no internet and me being some dunce kid in Butt fricking Egypt, was that Marino had been a huge cokehead at Pitt. THAT, not his injury, had made teams shy away from him.
Watch the pick here. The legendary NFL writer Dr Z disses the pick, but seems to be speaking in code, about Marino "overcoming the problems he's had". Is he alluding to cocaine?

I thought the same thing. Then they showed a clip of them trying to come up with a good, marketable excuse for Elway's refusal to play in Baltimore and they best they came up with was "he wanted to stay on the west coast." Sounds like a little bitch anyway you slice it.

Colts almost had a chance to get Elway and Marino
