Maybe by next year they'll implement the rule that the champion gets a berth in the CL. Though assuming we hire at least a half wit as a manager and get rid of Torres we will have no problem finishing top 4.

Lack of CL means so much less for Chelsea than it does for Spurs or Arsenal. Besides not being able to win the CL next year, lack of CL for a year isn't a significant blow to Chelsea.

Y'all have a loaded owner and money is not an object. Spurs/AFC don't.

Is it really that hard to understand?

I see your logic, but let's move it to a different sports.

If the Patriots miss the NFL playoffs, it's a pretty big deal because they expect to be there every year.

If the Panthers or Bucs barely miss out, it's not a big deal because they usually miss out anyways.

I'm sorry that's just stupid. His first sentence where he said "less," I can understand but it wouldn't be a "significant blow"? Please.

Arsenal aren't analogous to Panthers/Bucs. They make the Top 4 regularly.

as usual a couple of typical 'everton ' results will probably come back to haunt the toffees. would love to see them at least get that europa spot but i can't see it happening. probably finish ahead of liverpool again though.

Besides not being able to win a trophy which you have less than a 10% chance (generous) of winning to begin with, what consequences will it have? You'll not be hurt financially. You'll have a new manager (likely Jose) coming in which, along with money, will compensate for any issue recruiting players because of missing the CL. Whether you finish 3rd or 5th, the chances you win the PL, FA Cup, etc are the exact same. While it would suck to not have CL for a year, it wouldn't harm your club at all. For Spurs and Arsenal, making the top four changes everything.

I just can't believe that Spurs chances look so good. The win against City was huge. Completely changed our outlook. Beat Chelsea on May 8, and we should be a lock.

Because we are right in the middle of a major rebuilding phase in the club as the old guard continues to be phased out with new young players brought in. It's going to be tough to compete for the best players while not in the CL.

Plus, we are going to be looking for a new manager, one that hopefully will provide some stability for several years. Again, we may be passed over by a Mourinho if he has the opportunity to stay or go somewhere else and be a part of the CL.

I don't wholly disagree with you but it's a lot bigger deal to Chelsea than you're making it out to be.

Apparently so.

I can see where you're coming from. Obviously it sucks for any club with CL aspirations to not make it. But Chelsea's ability to rebound from such a thing is >>>>>>>>>>>> than Arsenal or Spurs.

That's the thing though, you already have a damn good young roster that you've brought in. I don't see many gaps where you'll need to recruit.

I think Randy isn't being unreasonable in this instance. I disagree, but lack of CL might encourage Jose to go elsewhere. I also don't think they'll lose out on Schurrle and Cavani bc no CL for one year, but maybe so.

No CL sucks, but if your finances are stable it's honestly not that big of a deal. Bayern didn't qualify in I think it was 07 and they are one match away from being in 3 of the last 4 finals.

Right now our team has next to nothing in terms of depth in the midfield. When we have to sit one of our first XI we have guys like Benayoun playing. We have been beyond fortunate that Mata, Hazard, Oscar etc... have not gotten injured with all the games we have played this year so it hasn't been as big of an issue as it could have been but there is no way we can go into next season without bolstering our depth.

With that said, we do have several players out on loan right now that we should have never sent off so bringing them back may be an answer but I'm not sure how many of them are ready to perform at the level of what Chelsea needs/expects.
