I think they are available in May. He could always get the lifetime, for a few dollars more it never expires.

They do that because it's the end of the fiscal year, don't know why then and not around Christmas.

Hypothetical question that I have never run into.
Say I want to fish June 28th-July 4th. Would I have to get two licences or is there some run over period?

If you buy June 1st or later it counts all year.

I think it's a money grab. If you don't schedule it just right, you'll have to buy two fishing licenses for the same season. Not that big of a deal for resident fishermen, but I can understand the headache for non-residents.

It is a really stupid law, should be 1 year from the day you bought it

If that was the case they'd make less money off of people like rex.

That is ideal. At a minimum make it Jan 1 to Dec 31. At least then it encompasses the entire fishing season.

But would screw up the hunting license. One year from date of purchase would make too much sense for a state agency.

I am pretty sure July 1-June 30 encompasses full year.

There is no overlap on license. If you buy June 10th, you would have to decide if you want the 2012-2013 license where you could only fish for 20 days or buy the 2013-2014 license where you can start legally fishing on July 1st through June 30th of 2014.

Buying next year's license a few weeks prior to July 1st does not give you legal rights to fish prior to that date.

He's talking season, not year. His point is that June is bisects his fishing season.

actually I think you're good if they check you on June 10th and you have next years license but daylower would know better.

Do you not understand the issue here?

If you start fishing in April. That's one license that ends June 30. Then you have to buy another. Two fishing licenses. It would be better to have the license last from Jan 1 to Dec 31 because no matter when you start fishing, there isn't a deadline in the middle of the fishing season that forces you to get another.

The real issue is that the States fiscal year runs July 1-June 30th. Hence the weird expiration date, maybe you can convince the legislature to tackle this issue instead of mandatory dog crates in trucks. I bought lifetime license in 1995 and haven't regretted it one time. Just wish I didn't have to go in for the HIP tag and the Deer Stamps.
