Releasing for current gen consoles a month before next gen comes out?

A digital version maybe. No next generation version.

I'm sure they've been working on this for years at this point. If sales are impacted at all from not releasing on next gen consoles also, it won't be much.

Why? Next gen consoles are not a guaranteed thing. Wii U followed an incredible success and has started out terribly. Why throw away a sure thing with PS3 and 360?
