Watched 1st LSU game of the season last night and it was a good one. Announcers kept saying it was the longest game (16 innings) in history of both schools. Just wondering if this were actually true. Seems like a lot of baseball to only play 16 innings over the course of thousands of games....

On a side note: Good to see Jacoby Jones make up for his 1st pitch swinging w bases jammed in bottom of 10th w patient double in 16th. Seems like he is taking way too many pithes IMHO. His 1st pitch swinging w bases jammed in bottom of 10th was not a good swing. He can play some serious 2nd base and that's why he stays in the line-up. SS for LSU is going to be 1st team All-American. He's that good in field and at plate. Geaux Tigers. Good luck sweeping the Tide on Sun.

It tied the LSU record for longest game. We played 16 innings in 1972 and 1996. It was Bama's longest game.

I don't think Jones did anything wrong. Just happened to hit it right at the SS playing in. Ibarra screwed up that play by not running to 3rd and getting doubled up. I have no idea what he was doing. Bases should have been loaded with 1 out.

Glad we made their longest game a losing effort.

would have been second and third with 2 outs, IMO. they would have probably doubled up Jacoby at first

You may be right but Jones runs pretty well so it would have been a tough double. But no way Ibarra should have been doubled up.

Their pitcher had just walked the bases loaded on maybe 15 pitches. There is no way you can swing at the first pitch. I don't know who's more at fault there. Jones swinging first pitch, or CPM not giving him take to assure he doesn't swing first pitch.

That's it! I didn't go quite far enough back in the record book.

Bama's SS actually made a pretty decent play there on a sharply hit ball by Jones.

Um, the shortstop dove for the ball and then threw hone. The only way Jones gets doubled up at first is if he tore both ACL's on the way to first and he fell to the ground.

I turned to game on top of 16 with two out and two on. Watched us score 3 runs, then turned it off and went to sleep!
