You my friend are setting yourself up for MAJOR disappointment. We are going to lose top guys out of the state this year. So is Texas, California, Illinois an even Alabama who have 2 huge schools and not a ton of top tear athletes. Lower your expectations son and stay off the recruiting board for a while. You might lose your mind before it is over with, we have a long way to go.
So it is rare that players take leadership roles in helping to put together their recruiting class? I think not. It is done all the time. Players call others and encourage them to join them. Of course it is an individual decision and each must do what is best for themselves. But to think players have no hand in trying to convince others to join them is not true. It is reported all the time.
However, it is an indivaul decision whether to seek to have an impact on one's class as well. Russell Shepard chose to be active and supposedly had an impact on others choosing LSU. Some may be comfortable in that role. Others may not. It is no reflection on the individual.
I agree I was out of place in suggesting Garrett play that role. Wildman and Garrett, I apologize for that. Just a great Tiger fan who got a little pumped there for a minute. As I was pumped when Garrett commited.
As far as being set up for major disappointment, that won't happen. I am a believer that LSU's fortunes are determined by who chooses to join the team rather than who chooses not to. I can't think of one player whose decision to go elsewhere changed the fortunes of LSU. Or the the team they chose for that matter.

Supposedly being the key word. The only guy I remember Shep really actively recruiting was Andre Dubose. I'm not a recruiting fiend though.
