I understand that completely. I was just trying to make the point that if he is drafted there, it is because he took very little money. If a team calls a college sr and says "will you take $10,000 to go 6th round" the kid jumps on that. He can say he was drafted 6th round, the team just saved $250,000 that they can give to someone else who is demanding more money.

The Blue Jays did it last year. They drafted college seniors (one from Nich St) with their 4th and 5th round picks last year. Neither kid was top 10 caliber, but they signed for $5-10k each. That saved the Blue Jays over $500,000 in 'extra' slot money that they could give to Anthony Alford and they're other high profile, high $ demanding draftees.

Does that make any sense?

Yeah the financial aspect makes sense. And I could see how someone might take a chance with Katz by not offering him any money. But I don't even think Rhymes gets drafted. If he does my guess is somewhere between 40 and 50.

Makes perfect sense. It will happen again this year. Maybe with guys a little more projectible than Katz or Rhymes, but it will happen.

I would think low ceiling college pitchers that project in the bullpen would be good pick ups there. They can be quick risers as righty or lefty specialists, and it's even better if they don't cost a whole lot.
