Golf Board: Question about Ping Eye 2 black dot irons

How do these stack up against today's newer irons? I have a chance to buy a set for a really good price that are still in great shape. I know these irons have been pretty highly thought of throughout the years. Just wondering if that is still the case.

They worked then and they'll work now. I have several sets that belonged to my grandfather, one of which are BeCu, and I love hitting them on special occasions. Newer irons will be more forgiving and a little longer, but you really can't tell much of a difference. The only thing I'd suggest, if you buy them, is to get them re-gripped and buy some shafts that are up to date

I have this exact set and they are incredible. The only major difference is that the lofts are not as strong as today's irons. A ping eye 2 7 is probably a 9 loft today. One of the greatest irons ever made.

Ha, it is funny you ask this. I am currently trying to locate a set of the BeCu or stainless Eye 2 + irons. Played them forever and sold them when I upgraded to the i3 blades years ago. I am sure there are plenty of clubs that hit better or are more forgiving if that is what you are after. I want them for purely sentimental reasons.

The eye 2 is the best. Just retired mine Becu for some i20. I may still dabble with the wedges though. Email ping with the serial number and they will tell you what year they were built. Mid 80s are superb.

They are great irons. But with today's tech the newer clubs are easier to hit and will go longer. They are amazing irons but the new ones are just juiced
