Is it time for LSU to upgrade the non conference midweek baseball schedule

I know it's hard to get teams outside LA to come in without some sort of return trip but some of these games are really bad. Tulane has been down for a couple years now.
Granted, LSU was supposed to play Southern Miss but it was cancelled due to rain.
I would like to see more Houston, Rice, South Alabama as opposed to Grambling, Southern, Miss Valley, and Alcorn St. Those games do nothing for RPI.
Ark just played Nebraska twice this week and I know the Hogs refuse to play the instate opponents like Central Ark.

I wouldn't mind bringing in some more Houston's, and such maybe La Tech, southern miss.....
i think this year was just an uncommon year in those regards with more SWAC opponents than desired.

Strictly speaking it's not hurting us at the moment (RPI #4 and a virtual lock for the national seed if the team keeps on keepin' on). I would like some good midweek games though. So yeah, why not?

yes but, the good teams want a home and home deal.

To answer your question... there are like a bajillion state schools. Midweek games don't bother me at all. Just don't ever play them on a weekend like SELU and Nicholls this year.

It cost LSU back in 2011 when they missed regionals.
There will be years where inexperience will hurt LSU in conference play and if you want to get in with a bad record than playing all the SWAC schools is the difference from making it or not.
Fla plays midweek games with Fla St, granted there are no teams like that in LA.

I would like to see more Houston, Rice, Sam Houston State, Southern Miss, South Alabama, etc on the schedule. But in the people who make the schedules defense, it's hard to tell before the season which of these teams are actually gonna be worth a damn. You know most years Rice is going to be good. I don't think many people would have expected Central Ark or South Alabama to be this good this season. And I certainly didn't expect Southern Miss to struggle as much as they did earlier this season (although they have turned it on as of late).

If we could limit the SWAC school to 1 per year I'd like that. No reason to play Alcorn State. Play Southern because they are right by us, maybe play Grambling State...but we shouldn't play any others.
It does hurt we replaced Southern Miss with Southern this year, cant do anything about that though.

I'm all in favor of LSU playing an upgraded non conference schedule in all sports. I would prefer to see the football team play Oregon than North Texas and the baseball team replace the Gramblings and Alcorn states with better opponents.
It might not be so easy scheduling quality schools for midweek games though.

I'm sick of seeing LSU listed as a leader in the SWAC conference standings. I think we have played every team from that conference.
I wish the fans would show their disapproval by not going. I know that they will only have 3,000 or so in the stands, but playing the 4th SWAC opponent on the year should attract a crowd of about 580.

The system we use has created 6 national championships. I see no issues with it. The "easier" midweek games gives us a chance to play a ton of freshman and we've used those games to throw a lot of young pitchers in their "first starts."
Those midweek games can bite you in the arse if you drop them...just ask Arky at the end of the season.

This is something I can get behind. No reason to play any other SWAC school besides Southern.

No what cost LSU in 2011 was going 13-17 in the SEC. I don't give a crap what the committee said.

True. Last year LSU was the #7 national seed and they went unbeaten in midweek games. Had they dropped a couple of those midweek games they may well have lost their national seeding.

I think having 3 stickied topics is too much FWIW. If I were an admin :ahemclearsthroat: I wouldn't have stickied the stats thread. (sorry tade). It's too much.

Tulane may not get to LSU, Florida, or LSU status... but believe me when I tell you they will be back in the national spotlight again in the not-so-distant future. Jones' time is about done and they are doing some damamge on the recruiting tails with Jake Gautreau as head of recruiting and more than likely next in line for the HC job.
