Will Rafa win his 9th straight?

Has any man ever won 9 straight of a single tournament?

The only one I see beating Rafa is Djokovic, but I think he's still a little bit gimpy after tweaking his ankle in Davis Cup play.

Looks like Guillermo Vials won Buenos Aires 8 times in a row, and 9 times total. I used to love to watch him play.

Before my time, but I've heard he was great.

Looks like it is only a 250 event. Not quite as impressive as Rafa at Monte Carlo.

If he doesn't, you can bet that Uncle Toni will speak out 2 days after the tournament is over that Rafa was hurt.

I'm picking up a little bit of Rafa hate in there.

My father in law beat Connors when they were juniors on the junior circuit.

He went on to play tennis at LSU on scholarship. Other than that, I don't know.

Nice plug. That's impressive. How many times did they play? Connors won the NCAAs as a UCLA freshmen before turning pro. So, if he played him in college, he probably didn't win.

I think they played when he was around 12 or 13.

It is a cool story.

My f-i-l is 61ish.

I think Rafa is an awesome player, definitely one of the best of all times. However, sometimes he and his camp, especially Uncle Toni, go too far. When he loses a match, which is rare, he is always gracious in the interviews right after. However, once the tournament is over, usually 2-3 days, its like clockwork...the injury excuses always start rolling out from his camp. Just gets really old.

And regarding Monte Carlo, I like how Rafa is saying he isn't the favorite, with Ferrer and Federe not playing and Djoker injured.

He would have definitely ended this steak if he played in 2011.

Is he going to bagel him?

I forgot that he didn't play in 2011. I think this is an optional tournament, which is why some guys aren't there.

Novak had four or five points for the bagel. He closes it out 6-2, but Rafa is finding the rhythm.

Yeah Nole should have closed it out, played two games too many.
And yes it's the only optional master but most of the time the top players play anyway.
Nadal just blew two bps

Djokovic breaks back, this is over.

Eta: maybe not, Nadal serving for the set

Djokovic wins 6-2 7-6(1) and sends a message. We'll see how the other masters turn out before RG.

Djoker 's probably the only one who can take him at RG too.
