And I completely agree. They shouldn't have 12 losses with a sub 2 ERA, but the system is built that way.

The fact that it was considered an error means that it would have been an out if the error wasn't made, thus negating any impact on the pitcher's ERA. The definition of an error is pretty much a play that should have resulted in an out, but it was flubbed and the batter got on.
