Some of the football scores say like

LSU 5 Texas 0 (1902)
LSU 5 Auburn 0 (1902)
Lsu 5 Shreveport athletic club 0 (1903)

I understand that it is possible to score five points in football with a field goal and a safety, but it seems we did it a lot back then. Were the rules different or something?

The rules were different back then. A TD counted for 5 points. So did a FG.

Go to Historical college football scoring

One of the very first college games in the 1870's ended in a 1-0 score.
