Almost. He refused to marry someone for family gain then mused that since the family sigil is a fish then that must make him the "black fish" (instead of "black sheep") of the family.

Pretty much with bard said- I think that it was his way of telling Catelyn that what Robb didn't was that big of a deal, since she was so worried.

I find it interesting that in this point of the story how the nephews rule over their uncles. Joffery is Jamie's & Tyrion's king. Edmure Tully is Lord of his uncle Blackfish, but his nephew is his King.
