So I just got invited on an Helicopter hog hunt in Texas. Group of us will run $200 a person for one hour of hunting. One person goes up at a time.

Which gun should I bring?

A. AR 15 223, concerned about the lack of power.

B. 30 06 open site, semi 4+1, I have one extra magazine, concerned about gun heating up to quickly.

C. 20 gauge double barrel o/u. Concerns are obvious.

Besides my handguns these are my choices.

What do yall think?

Bring your AR. There are vids of these hunts on youtube. They look like a blast.

The AR without a doubt.

I didn't realize one could helicopter hog hunt for that cheap. Is that some sort of special deal or can that price be had by anyone?

Yeah I've seen those. I assumed they were using 12 gauges and AR 10s.

I guess I could bring my AR 15 with four 30 round magazines and go Rambo on those pigs.

You arent really hunting consider it more population control. Its cheap because there are so many damn hogs that need to die.

If you guys are going to make a weekend of piggy slaughter look at some of the night hunts too. The ones ive looked at supplied the rifle(ar-10) and night vision scope.

But if Im gonna chose my weapon Im taking my AR. Its not a deer if it runs away and becomes coyote food, I couldnt really give a shite.

Could you include a little info on the outfit that is heading this up. I'm sure quite of a few of the guys on the board would love to do this, myself included.

What kind of scope do you have on the AR? I think the AR is the best of your choices, I bet someone there will have a .308 might want to bring some ammo for that as well and try to borrow a gun...

With the right ammo and a couple decently placed rounds you will kill the frickers. Plus having that large capacity will be helpful since your shooting from a moving platform

Josey, If that is the going rate you can prepare for a few hours on me about this time next year. I've wasted more than $200 on toilet paper in the last year. I can swing us a few hours of bringing the pain on hogs.

You can go with Josey and I. The last trip we took was to kill prairie dogs. We had quite the reputation by the time we left Gregory, South Dakota

The better question is how do you practice prior to the trip get maximize the slaughter...

I guess if you have access to land you could have someone drive you slowly down a private road (gravel would probably be best to provide bumbs) and shot at targets. Anyone else got ideas?

Cardboard target inside an old tire. Tire is rolling down the road while you are in the back of truck blazing away at it.
