Thoughts on in-game/unskippable/hand holding tutorials and gameplay?

This video pretty much describes my feelings on the subject. Game developers seem to think the gaming community is nothing but a bunch of infants that need to be reminded when to go to the bathroom and treat us as such. It really didn't start until late into the Nintendo 64 era. Considering that the majority of the gaming market is geared toward the 17+ crowd, this seems a little backward. This generation has been playing games since the SNES at least. You'd think we'd know how to play games by now. But the video is definitely worth a watch. It demonstrates how games can teach you how to play without retarded 30 minute tutorials via level design and situational learning.

They are okay the first time through, but personally I get annoyed if what is introduced will never be utilized again for the rest of the game

I hate that shite.
I don't mind the inclusion for the first playthrough, but please allow for a disable option for fricks sake.

Zelda 64 was the first time i remember there being a pretty lengthy tutorial stage. i guess it was helpful though. i mean, it took me like 20min to get into the gunstore first time i played RE2.

I always thought the first level in the original halo did this very well. Just taught you as it went along.

Poor, poor choice

The dwindling of the instruction booklet has almost made this a necessity. Not that anyone ever read them anyways, but not everyone knows how to google. TD showed me that.

This.
MGS4 didn't really have long tutorials, just long cutscenes..but that's part of the story. I never skip cutscenes in a MGS game.

The snake prowls fiercely but cannot scratch its back for as the Sioux people are aware of the snake has no hands for which to scratch its back.

The cutscenes in MGS2 explaining the Philosopher's Legacy and the Patriots were awesome. Since I was a kid when the game came out, when Raiden gets to Arsenal Gear, it made me laugh/freaked me out.

Second play through was full of "skip skip skip skip skip skip.............sammich.........skip skip skip".

I hate it. I don't mind when games give you a prologue type level to he your feet wet but the "go here, press this" gets old quick.

Playing through Assassins Creed Brotherhood has reminded me of this idioticy. Everytime I'm jumping in one of those wolf people's hideouts, Enzio constantly tells me things will help him after they fall. NO frickING shite THEY WILL, DO YOU THINK I"M AN IDIOT? It's fun, but you are literally invincible in that game. After I got the arrow storm or whatever, I was unstoppable.
