I mispoke. They won't be going on the fence. I will plant them about 4-5 feet from the fence. I want to plant a line of about 6-8 plants each spaced about 8-10 feet apart (on center).

You have several options. Any shrub like encore azaleas, knockout roses, or the new ever bloom hydrania will give you all summer long blooms. I like the ornamental grasses though for that type stuff and theyre are a lot out in a few colors now.

UPDATE: Finally pulled the trigger and planted a Celeste Fig and Moro Blood Orange Tree yesterday. The Fig went in fine, the Orange not so much. First dig i hit the sprinkler pipe. Had to cover back up and moved the tree up a few feet. Hit roots from old pear that blew down during the hurricane before i moved into the house. Took me about an hour to dig down and cut out and pull out all the roots.

I also bought 2 blueberry bushes (brightwell and premier) that i will be planting today. I am planting them 6' apart. I am thinking about planting 2 strawberry and 2 blackberry bushes in addition, in the back along the fence line. And maybe a couple apricot trees or something in the middle and one day putting a bench between them.
