What do you shoot? I found a box of Kent 3.5" #5's at the Bassin' Pro for $8.00. Not sure how they are.

In my 20 gauge I'm using custom loaded TSS #9
For my 12 gauge I'm still using Hevi 13 #6
Gonna pick up a 28 gauge for my 6 year old daughter this Fall and get a custom turkey load made up for it. Hopefully she bags a tom in Spring 2014..

Those #6 keep a good group at 40 yds?

I'm using a Kick's .670 choke and the 3" shell and it will knock the hell out of them at 40 yards.
That all said, I'll probably never use it again now that I'm getting this out of the 20. The 12 has been retired at this point..

It has been with my experience that the smaller shot size will always keep a better grouping

Winchster Supreme #6, lead, 3". I use a 21" barrel with a Hastings .640 choke for maximum constriction, all set up on a Remington 11-87.
I sometimes use the same choke on a REM 870 with an 18.5" barrel. The same load actually patterns better in the shorter barrel with the .640 choke. Both guns get better groups with smaller shot. They are both absolutely devastating beyond 40 yards with this combination.

I shoot a blended magnum load as well. I will not change unless I find something better. Shot a bird at 49 steps Saturday morning.

As a very general rule, tighter chokes like smaller shot and open chokes like big shot

Going to pick me up some 6's tomorrow for my hunt in Mississippi.

I shoot a Primos Jelly head choke, Benelli SBE2, and Magnum Blend Hevi-Shot. In 20 plus years of patterning turkey loads, I've never shot a better combination.
