I recall that draft much differently. Everyone was talking about Dorsey and Ellis as stars and top 5 players that year, and there was debate over which would be better. Maybe I am recalling wrong, but that's how I remember it.

Generally down is usually more fruitful than up. The team moving up is usually the one that has to pay some premium in the value of the picks.

This year specifically, the most I would like to see up would be two spots, That would cost the 4th Rd pick. That would mean jumping the Panthers. The only player I see fitting that scenario would be if Lotulelei was around at #13. They wouldn't be going after one of the 3-4 OLBs.

Otherwise, same as others have said. If THE guy is there take him. If not, a trade back would be fine.

yeah, that year hasn't worked out well for most in that Top 10.

1) Jake Long- no longer with Dolphins
2) Chris Long- meh, nothing great.
3) Matt Ryan
4) Darren McFadden- good player but gets hurt a lot.
5) Glenn Dorsey- might have been more noticed in a 4-3 defense? If DT's aren't getting sacks like John Randall or Warren Sapp, they suck according to most.
6) Vernon Gholston- workout warrior. BUST.
7) Sedrick Ellis- a few OK seasons but then pulled off a convincing disappearing act in seasons 4 and 5.
8) Derrick Harvey- Who?
9) Keith Rivers- Don't know you either.
10) Jerod Mayo- Solid pick.

I think that year it was Jake Long, Matt Ryan, McFadden and everyone else.
I remember a lot of talk about Dorsey, some about Gholson being a boom or bust and Mayo and Rivers being the "safe picks".

I just remember us trading up for Ellis and thinking WTF?

I now we needed a DT, but I think it was viewed as a reach. Not a HUGE reach, but a reach. That's my memory though.
