#2 isn't always true. Ruger makes a great 1911 with a cast frame, granted the slide and barrel are forged.
#7 I completely agree with. Springfield magazines are complete shite even though they make a great 1911. My S&W came with checkmate mags and they're actually pretty good. But chip McCormick and Wilson combat make the best 1911 mags IMO.
#8 I only do with 1911s. Every other new gun I run pretty much dry. It helps the metal to smooth out on rough areas and it gives you an extreme for a reliability test. Even using my 1911 I minimally oil in, mostly in the barrel bushing and slide rails.

The checkmate match mags are great. I've had problems with the McCormick mags (the cheaper ones not the power mags I believe).
I like to use gun grease on the high friction points.
