re: LA ranks top of nation in "gun violence"

Are you saying the map is misrepresentative?

Ok - then the numbers you are citing are from FBI Crime Data 2010, the graphic representation is based on the FBI Crime Data from 2011 and the 2012 election. So there is a likely cause for the differences you bring up.

Opened the thread to post this

Why make it a State issue when it is clearly an isolated urban issue?"

And in so many words this.

They already make me feel like an outlaw by chastising the guns I have. They make these guns illegal then I will be an outlaw and pick up weapons that are now illegal.

Good point. Looked up all three states and the murders increased in all 3. I'm still curious as to why they're blue because they're still 3 of the lowest. Anyway, I was just curious about the coloring of the map from a geography standpoint. It may be flawed but it doesn't detract from the trends or the hard truth: Vermont, the whitest state, has the lowest murder rate. Louisiana, the second-most black state, has the highest murder rate. You have to look at poverty and demographics (like BR & NOLA vs. the rest of LA)... West Virginia is the third whitest state after Vermont and Maine, yet the murder rate is quite high.

Interesting comparisons here

blue is cocaine, red is meth, and green is MJ

Pay special attention to that western seaboard, the curve of crime across the mid south, and the far NE and compare it to the unemplyment, cocaine use, and gang presense, and of course the minority population maps.

Now look and see which states have the strongest gun control background checks.

That would be the main cause of all the gang violence in this state. Yet, they still want to point the finger at something else to be political correct.

And while I'm thinking about it, political correctness is just a crutch so someone doesn't have to say what he or she really wants to say. It's a bogus term and prevents any progress from being made since the person is so worried about hurting someone else's "feelings." Screw that shite.

EDIT: Purple, those are some amazing graphics. I think the most telling is the one with gang populations. I didn't realize Chicago and L.A. had us beat by such a large margin. Amazing!

The only map that was poor in my opinion was the drug map I was not able to find a better version but the lack of MJ out in CA and OR makes it pretty invalid.
