How bad are these guys gonna be this year?

Or, are they going to compete this year

Should be fun to watch. Wont be horrible but won't compete. If we can just avoid multiplr 13 game losing streaks it has to be better

We'll probably finish last in the division now that the stros are gone. Won't compete.

Looking forward to it. Lots of young talent building for a bright future. 75-80 wins would be fine by me this year.

I'd be very happy if they put together this type of season. I'm hoping they don't lose 100 right now.

I was feeling like .500 was realistic, but the injuries are killing us before we even get a chance to compete. That being said I'm stoked to see Tony Rizzo do some work. Kid is legit.

If we get over .500, it will be a good year. The talent is slowly and surely coming together. can't wait to offload Soriano soon

Phil Rogers said this was going to happen "soon" like 24 months ago. I'd rather not focus on it because I do not believe it will ever happen.

Rizzo

Hope he continues to improve upon what he did last year. I think he finished the spring without a HR, which is kind of troubling to me.

As for Soriano, it really doesn't matter if they move him or not. They aren't going to get shite for him at this point, and they're still going to have pay most, if not all, of his salary even if they do move him. I'm just happy that he only has this year and next left on that awful fricking contract Hendry signed him to.

I still don't really understand the Soriano hate. Dude was the best player on the team last year. He was by far and away the most productive. He is a leader in the clubhouse that everyone loves. He busts his arse to get better and has turned himself into quite a serviceable outfielder. Not the greatest ever, but certainly very serviceable.

It's not from last year. I thought he was really good last year too. It's not his fault that he got signed to that ridiculous contract, but he didn't live up to it from 2007-2009 when the Cubs had a chance to do something special. That's where the hate comes in.

I can see that. like I said he really performed at a high level last year and is a good clubhouse guy and seems to love playing for the Cubs. That's enough for me to overlook bad years 3 years in the past I guess b

Why do you always have to be a dick? Trolling? Because I said I don't hate Soriano? I watch over 100 Cubs games a year and followed them to SF last year and Seattle this year, but I'm a troll because I don't hate Soriano? Seriously GFY.

Back to the original question of the thread, I predict 75-80 wins this season. If Baez and Soler develop this year like very one thinks they will and Castro and Rizzo continue to improve this year I could see 2014 possibly being a year to contend.

Personally do not care about the Cubs at all except I want Smaradzija to go beserk with about 14 wins, 220 k's and a sub 3.50 era.

Have him on both my fantasy teams and drafted him higher than I probably needed to, so counting on him.

Last year was the first year Sorryano attempted to play defense. His hop to catch fly balls and lack of effort is why most cubs fans wanted to murder him. He also admitted last year was the first year he practiced defense - which was pretty solid. Nice to see 18 million a year is starting to get a little effort.

As a cub fan most liked Marlon Byrd because he always gave 110% and hustled no matter the outcome. Byrd was a better player over a two year span than Soriano and had waaaaay less talent to work with.

Soriano hate = no effort and collecting big checks. A lot of people hate the rich guy, but EVERYONE hates the lazy rich guy.

My goal is to not lose 90 games this year. I would consider that a success.

Snowing in Pittsburgh right now BTW.

I can understand that. I don't agree with it, but I can see why one would think that way. One thing I will say is that Byrd was never a better player than Soriano in a cubs uniform. The guy but busted his arse more than anyone in baseball, but he wasn't actually a better player.
