Paging Roger, AK weather question

Have the past few winters up there been particularly bad? I watch the Mountain man/AK wilderness shows from time to time and they are always saying how the last couple of winters have been worst in memory and blahh blahh, legit or are they just playing up to the cameras?

I know Wyoming has had incredibly tame winters the past 2 years by their standards.

Thats what I have heard as well, very mild winters across much of the north, figure its just for the cameras as is all reality TV.

It's been bad. 2011-2012 (probably when they filmed) was one of the coldest and snowiest in history.
Some coastal towns got 500 plus inches of snow.

Yeah, depends on the weather patterns. Our cold usually empties into central Canada and just East of the Rockies. Last winter, high pressure was blocked and hung around for long periods of time up here.
Since 2000, temps have been below normal up here. I'l bet we were 2-3 degrees below normal last year, which is a harsh deviation.

Appreciate it, was just wondering. They are always freaking out over wood and meat, which is understandable. Funny though, every one says there are animals every where up there and last I checked a shite ton of trees.

Well, some of those shows are filmed in the interior where even a mild winter is pretty rough. Some areas of the interior reached 50 below in November the last couple of winters.
They had issues getting heating supplies in and it became an emergency because the rivers/bays froze up before the barges could get there in the fall in many towns.
It's a helluva lot more mild here on the coast. We are in the "banana belt" relatively.
