Force was first built by Chrysler. When Chrysler shut down, Mercury picked the production of Force for several years to try and build a cheap priced consumer outboard. There are still many of em running today. I've seen some run great for years and some that would not run right no matter what you did to it. My opinion, I'm not a Force fan at all. To each his own.

We have access to an 18 ft Bayliner with a Force 120 that's probably about a 95/96 model. It belongs to my cousin and is on Lake Pickwick (MS/AL/TN). We don't own the boat, but in all the summers that we've been up there it's been a reliable motor.
Had to replace the battery once, and another time clean the fuel filter when we ran it out of gas and it sucked up something from in the tank, but other than that it never gave us any problems. Haven't been up there in a few years now but it seemed decent enough to me. Occasionally it took some effort to get it started but that's because the boat wasn't used very often.
