Anyone care to explain what franchising would do?

Protection for the owners and players that their team/brand would not just vanish, as well as shared revenue.

All sports teams are franchised, the Yankees aren't going to up and get relegated and then sold off and no longer exist, neither should LCS teams with good owners like NRG and nearly Echo Fox. Owners with big time money, and good owners at that. They want protection on their investment like real sports owners have. That is reportedly why Mark Cuban has not bought a team yet despite the high interest for awhile now.

Too many good big name big money owners in the League now to not franchise, in their opinion. I agree.

This split alone you have NRG and FC Schalke 04 being relegated, both with big name big money great owners and a well established brand. Riot does not want that, owners do not want that. If the Yankees finish last, their brand isn't completely fricked from one season, or in this case, one 3 month split.

LCS is currently set up more like a European soccer league.... relegation, no revenue sharing, no joint ownership of the league. Franchising would basically restructure it to be an American sports league.

Teams like EF have a huge incentive to franchise since it basically guarantees their investment unless some Donald Sterling shite goes down.

Pros - Makes investment in LCS more reliable and prevents turnover to bad owners (if you believe current owners are "good"). Closes the "farming LCS spot" issue.

Cons - Less incentive to strive for excellence. Locks out potential owners. Kills CS for the foreseeable future.
