The Tigers and Illini played at the Edward Jones Dome in 2002 and ’03 and again from 2007-10, drawing an average crowd of 62,753. Both schools were guaranteed an annual $1 million payday and collected as much as $1.3 million to play off campus.

Nothing is guaranteed at this point. Part of the waiting game involves the Southeastern Conference’s pending decision on whether to expand to a nine-game league schedule in 2016, the same year the Big Ten will move to nine games.

The first game will take place on Branch Field at University Stadium on Sept. 12, 2015. The Lobos will make the return trip to H.A. Chapman Stadium in Tulsa, Okla., on Sept. 23, 2017.
