Angels are going to pay the bulk of the contract. And I'm not sure who they could send to the angels that's worthwhile

Probably a player to be named later..... Which means someone with no shot of making the club anyway

UPDATE, 4:30 PM ET: According to Passan, Wells has informed the Angels that he will accept the deal. Mike DiGiovanna of the Los Angeles Times adds that Wells’ things are being removed from the Angels’ spring training complex. It sounds like there are only a few more minor details to be worked out.

On Sunday the Yankees agreed to a move that will carry a bigger cost, both financially and symbolically: if it becomes final, they will acquire the Angels’ Vernon Wells, who has spent the past two years unable to live up to a seven-year, $126 million contract that still has two years and $42 million remaining. The Angels will pick up the vast majority of the 34-year-old outfielder’s salary; ESPN’s Buster Olney says the Yankees will pay about $13 million over the two years, and other national writers have confirmed that figure.

This deal doesn't make any sense.

It doesn't in a sense Yankees are trying to shed payroll. The Angels are obviously paying the majority of the contract and all. However, with Granderson going down and now Tex Yankees are running out of options.

It appears the outfield is Gardner/Ichiro and a combination of Wells/Boesch/Francisco depending on who is hot I would assume. At least those two were for small contracts and honestly I would prefer if Yanks just threw one of the kids in Triple A into the fire.

It really appears as a panic move for Yankees as they hope a new team could maybe spring Wells back to life. If he can hit .250-.260 with an OBP of .320-.330 and 20-25 pops then Yankees will feel it was worth it, however, I still don't like the move.

For the Yankees you're right. I know they've got quite a boatload of injuries but this is pushing it.

For the Angels it prepares them for handling future salary dumps (Josh, Albert) while cementing their spot as Oakland's main rival for the AL West crown.

They should have thrown Mason Williams into the fire. Looks like they are deep on OF prospects anyway.
