I wish I could settle your nerves but unfortunately, I cant! Look at the sellers feedback and what items he has sold in the past....
If he has sold items for that much money in the past and has received good feedback then I would roll the dice if it is a good deal.
BUT...if the seller hasnt sold anything before or this is his 1st time selling something in that price range...I would be extremely hesitant.

Why not do this?????
Tell him that you will mail him a personal check....tell him to hold the gear until the check clears. Once it clears, then he ships it. If he doesnt ship it then at least you have some form of recourse with the cashed check...right?
I mean with a money order...that shat is just gone!
But I am sure that both methods of "recourse" would be an absolute nightmare to follow through with!
I have never bought anything (only sold) so I never really put any thought into protecting myself as a buyer...just throught about protecting myself as a seller...

In order to become a seller, gunbroker asked some very private questions to verify I am who I say I am.
I am a new seller and only have a couple feedback comments so its hard to judge based off feedback when they are new sellers. Many people have recently started selling on gunbroker due to all these crazy prices people are paying. So some sellers may only have a few sales.
At the end of the day i guess there is no guarantee but gun broker appears to do a lot to protect buyers and sellers.
