So in order not to hurt the feelings of the dumb kids, we'll just not acknowledge the smart kids. Sounds about right.

Yeah....because we NEVER knew who the best students were until they got an award!

"Damn.....I sho didn' know she was the guhl gettin' "A"s !"

So stupid.....you could line up the poor students and ask them who would be getting awards (before the program) and they'd get it 99.5% exactly right

This is sooooo misguided

If that were my school's principal, they'd need the "jaws of life" to pry me off of his worthless ass.

Concerns of the collective prevail over the individual.

Where have I heard this before?

EDIT:

Found this on their website:

quote:

PRINCIPAL'S STATEMENT Ipswich Middle School is dedicated to high achievement in every facet of our students' lives. We did not cancel honors recognition as erroneously reported by FOX News Boston. We changed our Honors Night from an exclusive ceremony at night to an all-inclusive ceremony during the day in the presence of the entire student body. During this ceremony we will honor those who have excelled in academics, in athletics, in the arts and in the related arts. Any reports to the contrary are incorrect.

What the frick world am I living in?

SMH.

If I were one of those students that was supposed to be featured on honors night, I would be fricking pissed some bleeding heart decided to be a sensitive douche and take away a night of recognition from me and my fellow smart students.

I would say that's ok, I'm already smart as shite. I'll be making OT baller money ten years from now and this principal will still be stuck on his crappy gov't salary.

What's worse is they send the following signal to the others:

"Not only do we think there is something you should feel ashamed about not doing as well as the others...but, we think you are to weak to handle it"

awful

quote:

"The Honors Night, which can be a great sense of pride for the recipients' families, can also be devastating to a child who has worked extremely hard in a difficult class but who, despite growth, has not been able to maintain a high grade-point average," Fabrizio penned in a letter to parents.

Principal is doing a horrible job and I think caved on this issue. I wouldn’t doubt a parent with some pull had a kid that wasn’t doing well and school, so he did this.

Sounds like an "everyone gets a trophy" thing. Hope I'm wrong.

Does sound fishy.

Nah. Just makes it to where the honors kids are able to be recognized by both parents and students. Looks like the opposite if what's been reported.

I bet Fabrizio is a woman trapped in a girly mans body and shaves his legs as he sits on a toilet to pee!

I hear commencement exercises will also be cancelled due to concerns of offending those that will need to remediate. There are also peripheral concerns of increased CO2 and possibly methane production by the large contingent of carbon based units.

Our kids are so fricked

Along with "Arts" achievements and whatever else. I don't know what all that entails or what the "ceremony" entails. If its as simple as all honors at once, that's cool.

I'm watching the NCAA tourney and it is making me lose self esteem. If I can't dunk then these kids shouldn't be allowed to either. Ban dunking in basketball.

It looks like even the original FOX article noted that he was moving the program to the day.

quote:

Parents say they feel he is bringing down the education system; however, Fabrizio says he plans to include the honors ceremony with a previously planned end of the year assembly where students will be recognized in front of the entire student body.

Can we just go ahead and recognize here that everyone is not special, feelings get hurt, and schools doing this become labs of altered reality that hinder an adolescents growth for the world in which they are about to enter.

This. And more: dealing with disappointment, hurt, anger, embarrassment, fear, shame - whatever - is healthy & normal. Is we shield our children from these very normal life experiences they will have no foundation or perspective for dealing with them when they are older and their reactions have much more lasting consequences.
