It would be a mistake for so many reasons to have the arena in the 'burbs.

Auburn Hills works out pretty well for the Pistons in a dying city.

a lot of the people who have serious disposable income work within walking distance of the Arena

Yet they don't go to games with any consistency at all. Our attendance problems are not new. Those people have had ample time to fan up, but haven't.

As far as synergy with the Dome, I haven't seen much of it. People rarely even use the pedestrian bridge to get to Hornets games. They're just buildings near each other.

I'm actually curious how many NBA arenas are actually in dense downtown areas.

New Orleans is not Detroit.

How are you determining the percentage of fans that work downtown? I can tell you from the season ticket sales they make up a substantial percentage. And when the team was successful the Arena was close to capacity every night. A ton of people would stay downtown after work and go to the game. Still do, for that matter.

Have you seen the plans for the next couple of years for the area that encompasses the Arena?

The downtown Arena makes sense just like the Superdome makes sense. The traffic is no worse and, in fact, is not as bad. And I'd be curious to know where someone would propose to place the Arena that wouldn't cause problems cause other howls of protest.
