Here's my unorthodox method in filling out my brackets

This will sound insane to most of y'all but here me out. I'm in a pool with over 100 brackets so I realized that I really needed to make my entries to stand out.
My pool, like most others, rewards 1/2 round upsets with extra points (subtract the 2 seeds involved)
I put every 1 and 2 seed in the elite 8
I have every 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, and 8 losing in the 1st round.
Think about it, I know I will miss many games but when a favorite wins in the 1/2 round it's worth very few points. You know there will be at least five or six teams seeded 9 thru 14 who will win. All those bonus points add up to make up for the points I miss on favorites.
I have yet to finish in first place but I'm always in the top 5 in my pool of over 100.
Just a thought.
Also it makes it way more fun to pull for underdogs when you greatly benefit from them winning
Thoughts?

Rewarding for upsets is stupid without also penalizing for being wrong.

No it's not, you take a big risk picking an underdog.
So would you agree that predicting a 3 to get beat by a 14 should get bonus points?
Should a person who picked a 3 to beat a14 but lost get 0 points or negative 11?

How does your awesome pool reward points?

not by making it some strategy/intelligence contest where you get the most games wrong but still have a chance to win

I think you are missing the point, my pool gives:
o First Round=1 point per winner picked plus “upset points,” which are rewarded only in the first and second rounds and are the higher seed minus the lower seed. So if a 12 seed beats a 5 you get 1 point for the win plus 7 points for the upset.
o Second Round=3 points per winner picked plus “upset points”
o “Sweet Sixteen”= 5 points per winner picked
o “Elite Eight”= 8 points per winner picked
o “Final Four”=10 points per winner picked
o Championship game=20 points if you pick the National Champion
Therefore by sacrificing all my 3-8 seeds in the 1st round I'm taking a major risk of missing lots of points in later rounds
