Several of those don't belong in the top five. All lists should start with the Beatles, followed closely by Elvis Presley and Bob Dylan. Those three are easily the most influential of the rock era. You can also add Jimi Hendrix to that group.

He never said it was a top five. Obviously Floyd and The Doors would not belong on such a list.

The Byrds were more influential than Hendrix and maybe even Dylan. Their influence is still felt today in the alt.country movement.
