I enjoyed the episode pretty good. I didn't see that much happening in the first episode. They got the weird mom thing down pat already. The Sherrif visiting the hotel scene was pretty intense all the way through.

I'm not really digging the whole "Mom" instead of "Mother" thing. I mean, I know it's set in the modern day but come on. It's Norman Bates.

Wait, I thought he was calling her mother. I'm sure I'm wrong.

The kid did some serious Psycho watching/studying down. He has Normans quirks down pretty good. The way he ran upstairs was just like when the original Norman took off running. I know that's little, but I like when they get stuff like that right. Especially something in connection to one of my favorite movies of all time.

I actually liked it. I think this has a lot of potential and the acting is good so far.

And he did call her "mother" a few times as well.

Wasn't bad, I'll give it a shot. Would like some cues to the Psycho theme in the score.

Also, every chick in that town is hot

After watching The Following on Mondays for a couple of months, this show is dynamite.

Will watch from now on

I could be wrong, but I believe he called her "mom" early in the episode, but started calling her "mother" as it progressed. Not sure if there was a specific point where it changed.

I've never seen Psycho either. I thought this pilot was pretty hooky. I think I'm in for Bates Motel. I'm a big Vera Farmiga fan, too.

I sort of didn't understand why every female that looks at Norman wants to ride his dong. His mom, the teacher, the girls in high school, the girl with the oxygen tank. ALL OF THEM.

Did anyone else yell out "Franks and Beans" when Norma was getting raped by Warren from There's Somehting About Mary?

I dug the first episode. Interested to see how far they deviate from psycho, the interviews I've read have made it sound like they are changing up a lot.

I know, I know...I just never have.

@hilt, they seem to be set in some displaced time period. everything feels like the 50's, but then there are iPods, new-model vehicles, etc. Norma and Norman drive to the old hotel for the first time in some relic coupe...something straight out of Leave it to Beaver. Then these four high school girls take Norman to school in what looks to be a 2010+ model BMW.
