It annoys the hell out of me to hear fans say "Team XYZ needs to get rid of player/coach A", without realizing that in order for it to make sense to get rid of that player or coach, you would have to replace him with someone better; if not, it's just a waste and you're downgrading

What's a downgrade for us? We are lottery bound for the 2nd year straight. Is a new direction for a lottery team going to be the wrong direction?

We should keep Monty for one more year, due to the injuries this year, plus the fact that our roster is still pretty pathetic when all is taken into account. Plus we've had alot of roster turnover in recent years and the team could really use some continuity, and you don't want to make Davis learn a bunch of different schemes and coaching styles his first few years if you don't have to.

That being said, I am not optimistic at all about next year. Monty has consistently shown very questionable rotation decisions, and his teams have shown a disturbing tendency to allow massive runs and not execute in close game situations. Some of this is on the players, but a lot of that is a reflection on the coach as well. Not to mention our league worst defensive efficiency mark. Which again is partially players, but when you're dead last in something as important as fricking defense, the coach deserves a good bit of blame

Tyrus Thomas for Anthony Davis. Jameer Nelson for Greivis Vasquez. I could keep doing this.

Yeah, with half the payroll of the rest of the league suiting up. It was expected. We have no depth.

Not every direction, but some directions very much would be.

going by minutes played at position this was our starting 5 last year

pg: Jarrett jack
sg: marco bellinelli
sf: AFA
pf: Gustavo ayon
c: chris Kaman

only one of those are still a member of the team. this year is year 1 of the rebuild not year 2. not saying we shouldn't expect better but trying to say we are trending down from last year is disingenuous. we have almost a complete roster overhaul and our franchise player is a rookie.

Why should we change direction based on the number of wins when wins don't appear to be the top priority this season?

Considering that either Benson or Demps would have to eat Monty and his coaching staff's salary, anything that isn't a significant upgrade is a downgrade. I think in 2 - 3 years you can start attracting the better coaches. I can easily see a scenario where panicking now leads to a lateral move and in 2 years you're ready to attract that big name coach and he's ready to come only you're already paying 2 mid level coaching staffs.

I just don't see the need to hurry unless you have a realistically available can't miss coaching prospect in mind. You're wanting to change for the sake of change but there are very real costs and potential future consequences associated with making changes.
