Most underrated sports day of the year.

Thursday and Friday of conference tournaments are the most underrated two days of sports of the year. Don't get me wrong, I absolutely love the opening weekend of the Tournament, but today is just as good with most of these teams fighting for a chance to just make the big dance.

Yeah it's not as good as next week but it's solid. It's the official start of March Madness.

Unwittingly last week I scheduled a meeting for next Thursday at lunchtime.
When I realized what I had done yesterday.......

I don't like the big conference tourneys as much, save the Big East tourney. I far prefer the drama of the minnows playing in the early week. Literally, their entire season comes down to the tournament, as they have virtually no shot at an at large. The little guy gets to be center stage for a few days, and I like that, before the big boys take over later in the week.

This is why I absolutely loathe conference tourney's. You've just said all those games played from Nov - Feb don't mean anything. A team that dominates a little conference has on off night because they are playing 3 or 4 consecutive days or some mediocre team just gets red hot and that's it. Maybe we'd see some more 14 or 15 seeds or even an 16 pull an upset if the actual best teams from the small conference made the big tourney and not some 14-16 team that got lucky 4 games before getting slaughtered by Duke or Kansas.

It's better than them being roundly ignored. Having one day of attention is better than having zero days of attention. And however they want to declare their champ is fine with me. No one forces them to have the tourneys. The Ivy still kicks it old school... of course, no one watches the Ivy League's final weekend.
ETA - Nor does it take away from their accomplishment of the regular season. They just don't go to the NCAA tourney, which they won't win anyway. Norfolk State still won the MEAC regular season title.

Next Thursday-Sunday (first and second rounds) is the best sporting event ever in my opinion.

not really, but as you say it's the only way to get attention, so while ESPN doesn't "force" them at gun point, the conference tourney's are driven by TV.

probably not, but someone might pull a day 1 upset. Those chances decrease when you send a scrub team from the conference and not the team that has proven to be the best all year.

Cincinnati looks ridiculous

Just left work and went to the doctor because of illness. Came home and was surprised at the lineup. Now I'm feeling a little better.

Even better is sitting at the Palms watching all the games at once.
