Ok here is an example: Center fielder has his base ball cap and a glove/or not. Runs to a base places it on the base of in the dirt. Another player comes without a hat or hat and mitt and pick it up and puts it on. I'm in the grand stands an have seen it done every enning. One out away, watch the mysterious unfold.

Grammar/spelling is atrocious, idgaf

They pick up the last out of the inning so the batter or runner on base doesn't have to go back to the dugout.

Is the player who picked up the hat and glove the last player to bat?

Sometimes they do that so the last player to bat doesn't have to walk back to the dugout, then back to their position on defense.

They are helping their teammates out. Keeping them from running all the way in the dugout to get their stuff. Outfielders do it for other outfielders, infielders for infielders...etc.
