League officials have discussed a multisite, rotational bowl partnership of the SEC, Big 12, Big Ten and ACC to maximize matchups over six years, according to two sources with knowledge of those discussions.

The Music City Bowl in Nashville, Belk Bowl in Charlotte and Alamo Bowl in San Antonio are among the sites being mentioned. Under the plan, one conference would appear annually and at least two other conferences would play in a rotation.

-------------------SNIP------------------------

The Southeastern Conference has a tie-in to the Cotton (Dallas), Chick-fil-A (Atlanta) and Capital One bowls, all of which are vying for a spot in the semifinal rotation. Bowls are crafting their formal proposals now.

With bowl contracts expiring after next season and attendance dipping, the entire system is basically under review.

It seems more inevitable than impossible, the landslide is shifting. This would provide for some truly deserving teams for the Final Four though.

Guess I was wrong, I didn't think it would be possible for the Pac12 to have a worse bowl tie-ins.

uh, did some of you read this. It has nothing to do with conference alignment. It's lower end bowl games.

You'll see something like:
Music City Bowl: SEC vs rotation (Big 12, ACC)
Belk Bowl: ACC vs rotation (SEC, Big 12)
Alamo Bowl: Big 12 vs rotation (ACC, SEC)

In year one, it's the first matchups and in year two it's the second. All this does is give us a few more cities to go to for bowl games. But it won't affect the playoff at all. These are the lower tier bowls that will be after the Sugar, Orange, other playoffs, Cotton, Chick-fil-A, and Cap One.

The afformentioned bowls are on the Eastern half of the US. I would guess that's why.

I guess SA really isn't, it's about equidistant.

I think the Pac12 would be a little upset to lose the Alamo Bowl though. It currently takes their #2 team and is their highest payout after the Rose Bowl by about 3/4 of a million dollars.

The Alamo is a disaster financially. They were hoping increasing payouts would result in better games and thus better sponsorship. Hasn't really worked out. The PAC/Big12 games so far have been utterly unmemorable and ratings are down vs when they had Big 10's #7 or whatever.

The last year of the Big 10 deal the ratings were 4.8. That was actually a down year (it was Tech vs MSU) but I can't find earlier ratings. This year the Alamo got the best draw possible from the Big 12 and had a close game throughout. Yet they only mustered a 4.1 tv rating. Better than the Ok St - Zona game a few years ago that couldn't break 3 at least.

The Pac is a catastrophe for bowl games. They don't watch and they don't travel.

The Baylor vs Washington game with RGII and Kieth Price(?) was pretty memorable

the SEC, B1G and Big 12 would never be left out. So it comes down to who does a better job the Pac 12 or ACC. Most people thought it would be the Pac 12

okay, it was so memorable. But honestly, the ratings were mediocre. Realize the Alamo upped the payout significantly to get a higher priority in the Big 12 with a Pac opponent. And yet so far not a single game has matched the normal ratings of the previous arrangement.
