NCAA FB Rule Changes

LINK
Targeting is now a one game suspension, enforced like fighting (span games).
Among others is this:
To establish three seconds as the minimum amount of time required to be on the game clock in order to spike the ball to stop the clock. If one or two seconds remain on the clock, there is only time for the offense to run one more play.
Boise St. rule didn't pass.

Wasn't there a Texas game where their opponent spiked the ball with 2 seconds and then got the kick off?

Yay for more power given to such a subjective rule to begin with.

Turble.

I guess the LSU kickers and punters will need to find different numbers now.

this may end up causing a gigantic clusterfrick in a key game.

Definitely. A team will try to clock it with 2 seconds left to kick a field goal and lose.

Can anyone think of a reason for that rule? I'm really confused by why they think that's necessary. I feel like that's one of those stupid rules that will screw someone once and cause massive outcry, thereby leading it to be repealed at the end of the year. Makes no sense to me off the top of my head.

That's what I was thinking...no idea why they'd institute such a seemingly random rule. Especially one that says anything less than three seconds isn't enough time to spike the damn ball.

Football needs to set up a thing like golf where it has to play out existing rules for a few years. I hate how every year the NFL and NCAA are tweaking the game(usually for the worse). They need to be streamlining the rulebook instead of further complicating it.

i reminds me of the basketball rule that says it has to be .3 seconds or more to catch and shoot. otherwise you can only tip.
only difference is that rule makes sense, this one is retarded.

Disagree, if something is clearly crap we shouldn't be stuck with it for a few years. Like this rule.

i feel like the rules committee feels if they DONT make any changes every year then they arent earning their salary. and they honestly probably arent.

I meant to add that. Rules shouldn't be added every year but they can be removed if they suck.
