are: automatic bids that may steal a bubble team's birth.

are not: The conference tournament does not help bubble teams get in or out. All of this we need to win a game or two to get in is sheete. The regular season determines if you get in as a bubble team.

in the SEC i'll agree

but in some of the stronger conferences a bubble team reeling off some wins against some top teams in their conference can help them

No can do. They're already born.

THIS

The SEC is not too strong in basketball right now and the tourney will not help bubble teams for us but in conferences like the ACC and the Big East, it really does because if those teams win a few games, they are beating highly ranked teams in the process and strenthing their resume too.

When did they make that change? It absolutely used to matter what you did in the tournament. Our 1987 team that got within a point of the Final Four never would have sniffed the NCAA tournament if it hadn't made it to the SEC tournament final before losing.

They can make you look better or worse to the committee, depending on how you do.

The "what have you done for me lately" mentality looms over these tournaments for sure.
