Why does hockey allow it's players to fight?

While other sports throw you out for fighting hockey allows two players to duke it out. Why does hockey allow/get away with it while others don't?

It's been a part of the game since it's inception. The thought is that it allows players to take out revenge on players for taking cheap shots, etc. without having to retaliate in a dangerous manner.

I played one time in a Sorority charity event and almost got run over by a zamboni.

Also there's a fight etiquette. Players know how to conduct themselves when shite goes crazy by grabbing an opposing player to keep from a third man in situation. You also don't land many deadly haymakers when you don't have complete balance fighting on ice skates. (usually)

Sad that idiots think like this. Especially considering the NHL is by far the most exciting major pro sports league in the US.

I'm agnostic on fighting in the NHL, but there is a pretty definite Code on how to behave. No third man in, no one can leave the bench, take off your helmet if you have a visor, etc..

I cannot argue that. definitely the fastest. and most dangerous. you can not only get pummeled by checks you can get slit with a stick or a skate or get your trachea busted with a puck. quite dangerous.
