If anyone ever heard Chris Macaluso & Joey Pappania doing 91.1 KLSU FM radio broadcasts of baseball games, it was golden. Absolutely golden.
But Hawthorne's voice is just iconic. His voice is the sound of LSU, like it or not. A ton of haters that demand perfection in this thread are just not understanding what this thing means.
My Dad had John Ferguson and Hawthorne to listen to. I just hope we go find someone with real talent and don't give it to Hanny. I enjoy him on the radio but calling the game he just brings zero emotion to the table. His voice doesn't convey tension, excitement or intensity. All of which Hawthorne effortlessly relays to his listeners who can't get in front of the TV or be there with the team.

quote:Again, absolutely no one is expecting or demanding a play by play guy to make no mistakes. I doubt anyone expects that Jim will stop doing baseball either, unfortunately. Yes, his voice is synonymous with LSU sports but he is objectively bad at calling baseball games. I don't see what part of saying that means that anyone expects perfection at all times.

The difference in call quality when he's not there or takes innings off is night and day, and everyone knows it.
