I believe we should set state laws for antler resrictions in this Sportsman's Paradise. I dont know if it neccessarily needs to be a point limit because, ahem, some areas of the state dont have as much potential for growing trophy racks as others. But maybe it should be a width limit or width/height of antlers. They could even break the state into areas, much like they do for hunting season, and cater the size restrictions to best suit each specific area. I would love to see what this state could produce if there was just a little more progressive thinking in managing the deer herd.

Seriously? You think shooting spikes and basket rack 4&6 points is the way to keep approaching the La hunting season?

I live in mississippi so no input... But no one should be allowed to kill a spike but a child. And no grown man should want to kill small 4-6 point 2yr old deer

?? Meaning 5pt or better? Or are you not including the brow tine? FWIW i think eight point or better limits makes it to where you are passing on mature 6 & 7 points to take 2 1/2 year old 8pts with good genetics. Ideally, the way to go would be age limits, but a lot of uneducated hunters cant tell the difference in a 2 1/2 &3 1/2 year old deer.

Texas has counties with AR requirements. It has its plus's and minus's. Some people love it some hate it.

I hunt in an AR county. Allows you to see alot of deer and it also makes hunters have to really look and judge the deer rather than just pulling the trigger.

AR requirements in TX are 13" spread or outside the ears.

People who own their own land should be able to shoot whatever legal buck they want.

Public land? Sure limit them.
Private land? Leave it up to the owners.

Plus you couldn't do a universal antler limit everywhere. If you put an 8 pt or better limit in place, while its work for avoyelles, w felciana, Livingston and st James hunters for example may never kill a buck. JMO.

Would probably cut down on hunting accident fatalities.

Which is why i suggested different rules for different areas. Places like St. francisville and woodville, the deer continue to sprout more tines every year for their first few years, whereas deer in South la may stay an 8 or 6pt for three years and just get more massive.. Same with Tensas deer. They start getting freaky horns after a few seasons.. But some kind of size restriction would help La

I think the state should on people over the age age of 18 . Kids and women should be able to shoot whatever IMO . At least 4 point or better minimum .

I think this is where they are headed, and I support it fully.
They are breaking the areas down even smaller to micro manage them.

I'm not a huge fan of width/beam legnth limits in all areas.
They may work well for area that produce better quality deer though.
I prefer a four on one side rule, but thats just my opinion.

I meant 6 or better with the exception for young hunters or maybe the elderly. My first buck was a spike and was hooked from that point.

meh.. I think they should have a two week season where youth hunters can shoot any buck

(Oct. 15- Oct. 31)

Then bow season (with size restriction for that area)

(Nov. 1- Nov. 30)

Then rifle season with size restrictions

(Dec. 1- Feb. 28)
