Y'all talking about using special line to untie quicker makes me wonder if I'm not fishing fast enough or if I might be drinking too fast. No pocket knives up there in Nort Louisiana?
When your setting 200 every weekend, you dont want to spend hours to retie what you cut too short. I will cut one off in a heartbeat if it hangs up, throw it in the bottom of the crate instead of hanging it on the side so I know it needs fixing.

I always called it a half hitch. May be wrong though.

Dad always had tied it in a loop. put loop over limb and put yoyo through loop. reverse process to remove. So that is how I do it. Boy it was some fun running them at night on Iatt lake. Sure brings back fond memories. Dad would put the shiner just under the water. Lot's of times if we cut the motor you could hear the ones you had baited getting tripped. Many a night the fish's head would have ice on it on the later runs. seems the area in front of the camp was a staging area for white perch and dad liked putting them out in February.

I used to do it that way. The problem with this method is that is expedites the process of putting the lines out, not taking them up. 9 times out of 10, I need help in speeding up the removal process due to being hungover as hell after a night or two of yo-yoing and the half-hitch application is the way to go.

This. We'll move yo-yos around while running. We found this was the easiest method for us.

And if anyone is going to this just goto eBay and get some cheap line. Fly line can be pretty expensive.

ChoirBoy is a man of many hidden talents. He calls ducks and turkeys with his own vocal cords and hands. I have been in the woods with him before never yo-yoed with the outdoor guru. I would go out on a limb and say he uses his own God-issued dick skinners to jerk the perch out of their beds and leaves the yo-yos to the other kids playing around him.

I use what I call an over hand slip knot. When picking up you pull the loose end and it falls from the tree.
