Miles is here to stay as long as he likes and will have a statue. End of story. Just DEAL WITH IT. I have. I've accepted it.

I completely agree. Thats why all coaches, especially in college football, stress giving it 100% every single week and to never look ahead of an opponent. I know that Montgomery's attitude does not please Les Miles. He wants his players best. If this attitude would become contageous then the buck stops at the head coach but that is hopefully not the case. Can't really blame CLM for one players actions I suppose.

This is good post.

I would temper it with a couple of anecdotes:
1) Emmitt Smith would regularly avoid contact near the sidelines to minimize the wear-n-tear. He could have probably picked-up another foot or two but felt in the bigger scheme of things it wasn't worth it.

2) Jimmy Johnson (has any coach been as successful on both the college/pro level as him?)used to point out that a team could only play its best 3-4 times a year. I don't think he meant that his allowed players to loaf, but that only from a coaches perspective, you know you're not going to have your A game every week.

I recall a few games this year where Sonic Sam did not start and never could figure out why. Now we know. Coach Miles holds players accountable regardless of how friendly he is.

That's your answer, les not to blame. Any player taking games off is to blame for that decision.

Also, if you want to blame the coach, blame Chavis

All year Chavis is pumped up as the reason LSU wins games and how he has full control over the defense.

When it comes out that a DL guy stated he was taking plays off, suddenly Chavis is forgotten and Miles is blamed.

Anyway, when you step between the lines, the player becomes 100% responsible.

time to play younger guys.

We were tied with tcu for most freshmen played. I'm completely convinced people don't watch the games.

Also, when rasco, Edwards and Hunter lined up at de. How could both starters be playing? Y'all act as if Sam never sat out a play.

The buck starts and stops with Miles. He deserves all the credit and blame, but he mostly gets the blame. It's funny how coaches and players are the ones that bail Les out, but it's his fault for kids not putting forth 100%, it's also his fault kids do drugs and get suspended from the team. Yet we win in spite him. He had nothing to do with 3 division championships, 2 sec championships, and one bcs championship. All that goes to the assistants and players.

I've said this in the last three threads on this topic.

Everyone knows that pros play better in contract years. It's always talked about. So what's the excuse there?

And tigrlee with his "saban wouldn't stand for this" bullshite. Saban's teams are notorious for taking games off. Or did he forget games against Ulm or uab or Utah or almost losing to Georgia Southern? There are plenty of other games where this happened. Those are just the ones that come to mind.

But I guess those teams were just that good.

It happens at all levels. It's human nature. I would still like to know how many games we lost as a result of players taking a game off. There are a couple, but I don't give a frick about bowl games.

I'm pretty convinced you can't read, or comprehend, or both. I'm convinced you look for reasons to be pissed off.

Sam's PT could easily have been shifted to others, and it may have been. It's a desirable outcome to players taking time off. It may have happened in his case, don't know.

So let me get this straight , les miles, the head coach isn't ultimately responsible for the actions and efforts of his own players.

The players just may have some responsibility

If a WR is wide open and the QB throws an interception ....damn fire Miles

J. Lee is gone. It's not fair to continue to assail him for his play.

I would say anyone who actually took the time to figure out how many posts someone has in a day has a serious problem. Maybe some ownership issues as well

You should be happy those players are gone. Their attitude was the main reason for defense being inconsistent the whole year. They were concerned about NFL more than the games they were playing.

Eh, I disagree. Sam was one of my favorites and it's hard to figure out what he was thinking. He had a great career. The team just lacked leadership.

Me too, but then accepting the most successful coach in LSU remaining was pretty damn easy for me to do.
