How'd he do? I didn't follow the combine much this season. I think he should have come back but then again idk where he's being graded at right now.

looks like the only thing he did was bench, 25 reps.

I wouldn't say that. There's more to the combine than doing the drills.

League minimum is a good chunk of change and that's the least he will make. If he blows his knee out again next year he wouldn't even get a shot in the league. Can't blame him for going but for selfish reasons, wish he was coming back

No way it's a bad choice. He took the safe route and I can't blame him. Football careers are short, get paid while you can.

so you are saying that its a good riskreward scenario to take a minimum wage nfl job now and be stuck with it for 4 or 5 years instead of coming back to LSU and being a 2nd round draft choice next year. thats stupid to me. injuries are a part of the game and you can't run away from them.

anyone know the $$$$ difference in the two scenarios. I'll say $2-4 million over 4 or 5 years
depending on where you are drafted in 2 nd round.

i don't blame Faulk for going early; would he be a high pick next year if he stayed? probably, but think about Ciron; that was just tragic. It worked out very well for Dorsey even though he was hurt and played sub par the last few games of the season:he still got a big pay day.

That all depends on the player involved. There's a good chance Faulk will make around $500,000/year on his rookie deal. All rookie deals run for 4 years now.

There's also no guarantee Faulk would move into the second round or higher. In this situation the player decided earning money a year early and getting closer to that second contract outweighed the potential to improve his draft stock and remain injury free at LSU.

And with the way draft pick salaries are slotted now, the reward doesn't completely outweigh the risk like it did in the past.

It's the player's decision, and there really is no right or wrond answer in this situation.

You're assuming the best will happen if Faulk would have returned to LSU, but you also have to have the bad scenario in your mind as well.

Another leg injury would severely hurt Faulk's draft stock, just like it has for Lattimore.

While what you say could be true. There are only 2 to 3 years that he would be missing this money, plus the first year he is making money rather than not making money. And he would be signing a new contract a year sooner if he leaves now.

So, now he is only really losing money in year 2 and 3 of a 4 year contract. Not to mention adding an extra year you his career. So, he could stay and probably make it without getting injured and probably get a better draft spot, so I think it's not a bad idea to take the money now.

He was never going to work out anyway. Most kids, not just the guys like faulk, Will be doing more of the drills on their schools pro day. Seemed that way for a lot of prospects.

If he stays, he will be losing out in the contact he will sign this year. Also could be the end of his career and miss out completely if he comes back and gets hurt.

Look at like this.... Barkley will never get the money he missed out on last season for coming back.

If moving from a probable first day pick to the 3rd or 4th round = looking good then 'yes'. Lattimore's doing great.

Every player takes some risk when they decide to play past their 3rd year. Faulk's risk wasn't any higher than anyone else's. The real question is whether he made a good financial decision.

If he's drafted in the 3rd round, then a good argument could be made that he made a decent decision. He would have settled for less money, but started receiving it a year earlier which, assuming he gets a second contract, means that he would have an extra year of NFL salary.

If not, and he's making close to the minimum like you mentioned, then it was CLEARLY a bad decision from a financial standpoint. He left a lot of money on the table, and may not be given the same chances that a higher pick would get to get on the field. That could easily negatively affect his 2nd contract even if he's good enough to play.
