re: What would you rather have? Healthcare related vs. military

The supply of medicine is smaller than the demand for it.

If govt could be counted on not to abuse the power (and it not be prohibitively expensive, inefficient, encourage complacency, etc) then it might make sense.

You shouldn't want govt paying for your healthcare for the same reason you shouldn't want your in-laws to pay your house note. He who pays the piper calls the tune.
If you value freedom over security, you don't want single payer. It really is that simple.

Hasn't really happened all that much in the UK, NEw Zealand, or Canada.

Hell, Canada was pretty much like the U.S. in terms of diet. At least in Ontario.

Not really that simple.

Are you really free if you have to stay with one employer or not open a business because your insurance won't accept you due to a minor heart condition or pre existing condition like diabetes? You're not free to move where you want or change jobs necessarily. If you don't have gobs of money (millions) in reserves, then you're not free if you come down with leukemia. you'll be stuck paying that bill and being a monetary slave your whole life if you survive it. doesn't sound too free does it?

Just because they have it doesn't mean we should. There is a reason we have thrived over the years and left those fools in the dust.

I agree completely. If there's one area where the democratic party pisses me off more than any other it's school choice.

The problem is, economic progressives do not support vouchers.
Yeah, they'd want total government control.

healthcare is one entitlement I think all Americans should have. LIFE, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness people.

Do you understand the context in which these words appear?

These are one's "Creator-given" rights, not given by government, nor to be interfered with by government. That does not translate to - citizen has the right to demand the government (i.e., his fellow citizens) pay for his halthcare.

Now...as to the Constitution, which despite what Obama and the Dems (and 4 [sometimes 5] Supreme Court Justices) would have you believe DOES set forth the duties (and LIMITATIONS) of the national government...the government IS obligated to protect its citizens militarily. It is NOT required to provide healthcare (and I am still trying to find where it is authorized to require people to get it [DIAF John Roberts]).

Thus, what you've just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard. At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.

I have talked to republican strategists repeatedly about this. Polls have shown that minorities, especially blacks, support school choice. I really don't understand why republicans aren't more vocal about this. If school choice is an issue in a presidential election, republicans could gain few % points of the black vote, which could swing a state like Virginia.

would your creator not want you to care for your fellow human being to the best of your ability? Is our healthcare the best of our ability?

I agree adn realize this. Does it mean our healthcare system is good? Again, as I've said througout the thread, the system we have is broken. Is single payer the answer? Maybe, maybe not. But it's the only example we've seen that works.

EXACTLY. Although against Obama or any black candidate it wouldn't win you a single black vote.

school choice is not limited to vouchers. Vouchers are actually among the least effective school choice options if you are looking to implement something on a widescale in an existing system such as the one that we have.

It is possible to be for expanding school choice without preferring vouchers be the means for it.

I don't have to do anything under the current system.

It doesn't sound like you're making sense.

Freedom = cradle to grave govt control of healthcare?!

Very true. I would simply support legislation that gives parents the choice of which public school to send their child too.

Under the current system, if you're ever diagnosed with a long term disease or health issue, you will have to think EVERY career move through in regards to you staying alive.

Freedom= cradle to grave insurance control of what process is deemed cost effective enough to treat?!

It would certainly swing a few votes if it was Rubio vs Clinton or Elizabeth Warren.

I would too. But, wouldn't that cause overcrowding in some schools. What would be the cut off or way of limiting too much growth in one school? Grades, standardized tests, etc. I would be all for separating by ability, but there will always be cries of racism regarding it.

yes.

But, would Creator MAKE you do it? No.

That's the difference. Jesus (he's mine, so go with it) preached for man to love his fellow man and to act with charity toward him. He called for the rich to give to the poor. He did NOT call for government to take all of the wealth of the rich and redistribute it.

US healthcare went to shite when government got involved in the insurance market in the 1960s with Medicare. Period. Government should completely get out of it.

I can agree with all your points. If we can get rid of govt involved in healthcare and have insurance companies be efficient and FAIR (which they are not right now) then i'd be 100% for it.
