It has been a long slow process of converting these N LA residents over to the dark side of coffee drinking. I grew up south of the white gravy line and moved to the Port City a couple years ago. Hell, Salmon didn't even drink coffee till I got here. I drink it black as the night and stronger than my momma's resolve.

Your point? I thought it would be a fun topic. And I'm not criticizing...the coffee I've had in Texas has been brewed a lot weaker than down here. That's all.

Looked like he was insinuating the coffee sucks.
In the k-cup thread, most coffees are treated equally.
Either way I'm not a big fan of the North LA bashing considering I spent the first 27 years of my life in Bossier City. It's a nice town, no different than Baton Rouge when it's not football season.

I drink Peet's Coffee from the San Francisco Bay Area. It's infinitely better (and stronger) than anything I have found in the New Orleans area.

I'm sure everyone from South Louisiana doesn't prefer strong, dark coffee. In fact, my uncle (from New Orleans) enjoys blonde roast. I, on the other hand, enjoy a medium or dark roast and drink it black. It's a personal choice. I-10 has nothing to do with one's coffee preference.
ETA: I'm drinking a cup from Jazzman's Cafe right now and it tastes like tea.

Of course it's personal...but the question was asked in a general sense. Don't pretend there aren't culinary trends based on geography.

I didn't really drink coffee when I live in north La. (through high school) but I can remember my parents, relatives and local coffee shops indeed did brew a lighter cup of coffee than I've seen as the norm down here in New Orleans. It's tough to really get a good sense of it when so many people get their coffee from places like Starbucks, CC's, McDonald's, gas stations, etc. I'm rarely in someone else's house when they're having some coffee they made themselves.

The tradition is dying with my parents' generation. If you don't have a pot of coffee on you are a shitty host in their world. I always offer to my guests but people my age are less likely to take a cup at 7:00 p.m. than the older folks.

I moved from New Iberia to Shreveport to go to college and remained up here. The difference in coffee is HUGE. It's so weak that I just stopped buying coffee and made it at home....Community New Orleans Blend.
Then when Starbucks moved in I tossed the coffee maker and have a Quad Espresso every morning. 4 sugars and some steamed Skim.

A couple of months ago one afternoon my buddy called and said he was about to drop by my house just to shoot the shite. He said he was going to swing by Starbucks and did I want anything. I told him I had just brewed a pot of coffee and he was welcome to have some of that. Thought that was pretty standard, but he seemed a little surprised/reticent about it. "Oh, um.. okay I guess I could do that." and fwiw, I've never been offered the same in someone else's house my age.

Stroll on over to Rhino coffee on Southfield (close to Line). It's the best coffee I have had so far in Louisiana.
