btw, 121 Artisian Bistro has the best steak in town and it's not even close.

Mazen's: a good atomosphere if you are looking for a nicer dinner

Daryl's: pick a Poboy, not a bad one on the menu. My favorite is the surf and turf(make sure you get the jalapeño mayo)

Steamboat Bills: good for fried seafood, don't get the crawfish though not very good and overpriced

Miyakos: Japanese, if you go only get sushi. Service sucks however.

El Tapatio: Mexican joint on hwy 14, one of those whole in the wall places- cheap but very good

The former D'Angelo's? I'm glad they broke away from D'Angelo's. It was better than any D'Angelo's I've been to in BR. Just think it was a better run place. I'm glad their name doesn't drag it down any more. D'Angelo's has become synonymous with overrated in BR.

Darrell's for a good po boy.

Luna's downtown has great food. I love the steak and the Luna Tuna.

Seafood palace on Enterprise Blvd. is really good. Their catfish is really good, gumbo is great, you really can't go wrong there. It's casual.

Steamboat Bill's, either on Broad & Hwy 14 or downtown near the lake, right next to I-10. It's good too but it's kinda pricey for what you get.

There's a place downtown near the courthouse, may have been what your buddy was telling you about, called Sha-Sha's. I was there once and wasn't impressed. I'd steer clear of it.

There's a place across the street from the mall on Prien Lake Road called A-mazen Seafood, the owners also own a steakhouse called Mazen's, hence the funny spelling. I heard mixed things about it. Never personally been there.

Mr. Bill's seafood on McNeese St. isn't too bad. It's across the street from the campus of McNeese. Very casual.

Personally, I'd go to either Seafood Palace (for the seafood). You can get a good burger pretty much anywhere from the chain places.

All Darrell's has are sandwiches. They're good, but that's all they have, not a lot to pick from. Their jalapeno mayo is great though.

Don't forget about Pronia's. Good muffalettas and other italian food.

Good call. Pronia's is often overlooked. It's on Kirkman, near the intersection of Kirkman and Prien.

what's crackin', birdman

I'm just here to revel in a Lake Charles thread that isn't full of hate

First I want to say something I haven't seen mentioned yet: Lebanese/Mediterranean place smack in the middle of where the hell called Cousin's. Food and, more importantly, beer selection there is unreal, especially for Lake Charles.

I'll also praise the Darrell's bandwagon. Reminds me that after the last day of finals Junior year in high school, a good bit of us went to Darrell's and actually chatted a bit with "Darrell." Apparently his favorite sandwich there isn't the Special, but the BBQ Brisket. Boy was he right.

Another favorite spot of mine back home was KD's diner...better than Louie's IMO, but don't tell any BR folks that.

Other than that, I never really ventured to the more "uppity" places to eat...my parents had four kids to pay for, plus they cook all the time.
But I'll also nod to Steamboat Bill's and Luna's.

What's up, man!!

I also thought of another one, Southern Spice on Ryan, that's a good place.

Their fried pork chops are great!

damn, only been there for breakfast.

Ever been to Cousin's?

Oh, and I'll throw in Ball's Fried Chicken. I mean it isn't sit-down by any means, but it's awesome.

You get 2 center cut pork chops fried with whatever you want as a side. It's sooooo good.

Where is Cousin's? It's hard to overlook it but I don't remember seeing it.

Ball's Fried Chicken is one of my bro in law's favs too. I love Popeye's too much but I really want to try it. He said it has some zip to it.

Yelp says 2612B Kirkman...I haven't driven there myself yet, though. It really is a diamond in the rough, considering it's connected to the back of a liquor store

Hell yes. Instead of some minimum wage high schooler, you can taste that the chicken was made by an elderly black women who spends her free time whipping her grandkids with switches they picked out themselves.

But really, it's spicy and awesome.
