My "Wendy's" Replacement: Ryan Otten. San Jose State

I've made at least one post in hopes that the Saints would take him. I know a lot of ya'll are hoping that Auburn's Lutzen?????en is a guy we might pick up. Take a look at San Jose's Ryan Otten though, he might be a lesser known name than PL and could be available in later rounds.
Age: 22
Height: 6-6
Weight: 245
SR stats: 47 rec 742 yards 4TD
JR stats: 52 rec 739 yards 5TD.
Projected 40 time: 4.7
LINK
He's an athletic guy who has the ability to get downfield. Although not a physical freak like Jimmy Graham, Otten is like Graham in that he's still a bit raw and will need some more development. His blocking can be solid at times but theres room for improvement. I've seen him stay too high and get beat. He's also not overly physical off the line. He does have good hands and isn't afraid to use his size go up and make a catch. As of now he's projected to go in the 6th round.

after reading reports on him he sounds like a good receiver but not at all developed as a blocker. I think as a #2 they'll want a TE more well rounded like Thomas. He could catch okay but was a solid blocker and could fill in at FB if needed.
But as a late round flyer you aren't necessarily looking for a #2, just a talent to develop. Could do that n see if he could do some combo action on the field with Graham ala Patriots.

And if we're looking for an exact Thomas replacement, Lutzenkirchen does fit that mold better than Otten. Solid blocker and can be plugged in at FB as well. I'm just not certain that Lutz will be available when we would look to take him.
You did hit on one of the major weaknesses of Otten. He gets off some decent blocks sometimes but overall, he needs to work on his technique. And with Graham being our receiving TE without polished blocking, we may want to balance out with a #2 who brings a different skill set.
